24+ Fat Quarter Sewing Projects

If you sew, you probably have a stack of fat quarters just sitting there… waiting.

They’re too cute to use, but too small for big projects. So they end up folded in a pile while you wonder what to make with them.

The best part about fat quarters is they are perfect for quick, fun sewing projects!

Whether you want to make something useful for your home, a gift for a friend, or just use up those pretty prints, there are so many beginner-friendly projects you can sew in an afternoon.

    What is a fat quarter?

It is a term used often but maybe you aren't exactly sure what it mean. A fat quarter is a piece of fabric that equals a quarter of a yard but it is cut differently from a regular quarter yard. A fat quarter is fabric cut into a rectangle that measures 18" x 22".

You can find them at local fabric stores, craft shops, and even in the fabric aisles at Walmart. They come in lots of colors and patterns, which makes them super fun to use.

      1. Hello, There are lots of places that you can get fabric. If you want to stick with buying at a brick and mortar store, Walmart and Michaels have great selections. Comfortable with buying online? Try Amazon for a great overall selection and Spoonflower if you are wanting specialty print fabric. I've also had luck with checking out Facebook Marketplace and thrift stores/creative reuse stores (just make sure that you wash/treat the fabric before using) Here is a link to a YouTube video about creative reuse stores: https://youtu.be/noKv0vX_2kU?si=iYbmfJ2yiR03zpIn
        I hope this helps. :)
