Fall in our house doesn't just mean back to school and garden harvest time, it also means fall cleaning. Of course, some years that cleaning is closer to Christmas than it is to harvest.

Each year we look for better ways to organize our home. Finding ways to utilize all the space we have, which includes wall space. For years I've wanted to create this hanging fabric basket pattern, or some might call them pods. I've finally done it.
I'm excited to add these baskets to my pantry. I'll be using them to store our garden onions and garlic for use through the winter. They can hang right on the wall and take up less shelf or counter space. Plus, they are colorful and add some extra charm to my pantry.
Maybe you have your own garden harvest you want to hang or maybe you could just use these baskets in your sewing room to hold thread, in progress projects or fabric scraps. They would make great toy bins to hang on closets or the sides of dressers. You could use them to hold dirty socks or rags. The sky is the limit when it comes to using these diy wall hanging baskets.
Whatever you use the pattern for, I hope it help organize your household a little more and add some color and creativity.

How to Sew a Hanging Fabric Basket
Materials Needed
- Wall Hanging Basket Pattern (look for the peach button at the end of the post)
- 1/4" yard cotton fabric - main basket
- 1/4" yard cotton fabric - lining fabric
- 1/4" yard fusible interfacing
- Matching thread
Apply interfacing to the wrong side of the main fabric. Optional: Apply to lining fabric as well for more strength.
Fold basket pieces with right sides together, matching along the long seam. Stitch at 3/8" down the long side and across the bottom straight edge. Press.
Repeat with lining.
Sew the boxed edges together by matching the opposite corners together to make a straight line. Stitch. Repeat this with both boxes on the main fabric and the lining.

Fold strap in half with right sides together. Stitch down the long side and press. Turn right side out using a safety pin or bodkin.
Place strap on the center back of the lining piece. One raw edge should be about 1" from the seam on either side. Pin or baste in place.
Turn the main piece right side out and slip it inside the lining. Line up the raw edges and pin. Mark a 2" opening on one side to allow for turning. Stitch around the raw edge at 1/4" seam allowance. Press.
Turn bag right side out through opening. Press. Topstitch around the edge to close off the opening and finish the bag.
Now you have a nice hanging fabric basket you can add to any wall or door for extra storage. Make a bunch for your laundry room or sewing room. Add them for more storage in your pantry. Or fill them with fun little gifts to give to friends and neighbors.
