This pattern is sized for both kids and adults, so everyone in the family can have one. Just choose a stretchy knit fabric in your favorite color, and you're all set. The pattern is easy to follow, and you'll have your new headband finished in no time.
Headband sewing pattern
Materials Needed
- 18" x 5.5" knit/stretch fabric - child size OR 20" x 5.5" knit/stretch fabric - adult size
- Thread
Step 1
Cut 2 strips of knit fabric using cutting info below/
18" x 5.5" knit/stretch fabric - child size
20" x 5.5" knit/stretch fabric - adult size
20" x 5.5" knit/stretch fabric - adult size
Set sewing machine to a zig-zag stitch.
Fold fabric in half down the long side of the fabric with right sides together. Sew down the long side of the fabric using a zig zag stitch.
Repeat with other fabric piece.
Turn fabric right side out.
Place the fabrics together in an "x" shape.
Fold the pieces so that the short sides meet. Making sure they form a knot.
Match all 4 of the short sides. Zig-zag all the short sides together.
Open the headband and make sure the knot is in the middle. Trim along the short side edge you just stitched.
So, there you have it! A free twist headband sewing pattern for beginners.

Chelsea, I'll be making several of these for gifts. Thanks for the tutorial. One suggestion in Step 2, though, is to include wording to sew the 2 longs sides together before turning right side out.
