Ever been the mom who ends up carrying everyone’s water bottle at the park, the zoo, or just a walk around the neighborhood? Yep, me too.
Somehow, even when my hands are already full, I always end up with an armful of bottles that no one else wants to carry. That’s why I created this super simple DIY water bottle holder.

This sewing project is perfect for beginners. If you can sew a straight line, you can make this!
It’s a fun and useful way to practice your sewing skills while also solving a real-life problem.
Plus, the kids love having their own holder to carry. It makes them feel grown-up—and I get to keep my hands free for more important things (like snacks).

How to Sew a DIY Water Bottle Holder
Materials Needed
Step 1Press interfacing to the wrong side of the 2.5"x 2.5" fabric.
Press two of the sides towards the middle.
Fold in half again and press. Stitch the long open side of the piece together. Press.
Loop the swivel hook or a keychain throw the 2.5" piece. Fold the piece in half and stitch a basting seam along the raw edge of the keychain loop.
Take your 3" x 55" strap piece and fold the long side with right sides together. Stitch down the long edge at 1/4". Leaving the ends open.
Turn drawstring right side out using a safety pin or a bodkin. Press.
Place the two main pieces with right sides together. Stitch down the two long sides and across the bottom straight edge. Leaving the two boxes on the bottom open and the top of the holder open.
Mark a 2" opening at along the side edge of the lining. Stitch down the two long sides and across the bottom straight edge. Leaving the two boxes on the bottom open and the top of the holder open.
Step 8
Find the small boxes on the bottom of the holder. Match the diagonals of the box together. Stitch along the straight edge. Trim the excess fabric away to get rid of the bulk.
Repeat step with the other boxed corner and the corners of the lining.
Step 9Place strap into the lining piece. The raw edges of the strap should line up with the seams of the lining. Pin or baste in place.
Measure 1" from one of the side seams and pin the keychain loop.
Turn the main piece right side out and slip it inside the lining. Line up the raw edges and pin. Stitch around the raw edge at 1/4" seam allowance. Press.
Turn bag right side out through opening. Press.
Stitch the opening of the lining closed and tuck the lining inside of the main bottle holder.
Topstitch around the edge to close off the opening and finish the bag.
