It was missing something.
Don't get me wrong. It was soft, stretchy and would make the most comfortable leggings ever. But it was a little plain.
We were looking for something with a little more pizzazz.

Finding the perfect fabric can be super frustrating. You've got that idea in your mind. The perfect star print fabric. But finding it can be a challenge.
Why not make your own? I don't mean create your design, send it to the printers and order 10 yards.
You probably only need 1-2 yards.
Why not create your own fabric pattern with Cricut.

That's right. Have you ever thought to design your own fabric with vinyl. Heat transfer vinyl that is.
Heat transfer vinyl is designed to be heat set into fabrics.
Most people think of HTV for use on t-shirts. Consider using it to create your own custom fabric prints.
Take a solid, striped or ombre fabric and add a fun patterned design that fits your needs.
In just a few steps you can have yard or two of your own fabric design ready to cut out and sew.
Let me show you how simple it is to create your own fabric pattern with HTV.
Design Your Own Fabric with Vinyl
Materials Needed
- Fabric
- Whatever you are using for your project. I'm using a knit.
- Iron-on or HTV vinyl
- Cricut EasyPress or Iron
- EasyPress Mat
Step 1
Cut design on iron-on vinyl or HTV. You can cut them out by hand or use a cutting machine like the Cricut Maker. I cut out 1/2" stars.
Step 2
Cut out each individual design. Place the around your fabric at random. Try to space them out evenly and make sure to turn them different directions.
Step 3
Press vinyl design onto your fabric with the Cricut EasyPress or an iron. Make sure to follow the temperature guide based on the type of fabric you are pressing your design to.
Step 4
Allow to cool and peel off the plastic backing. Make sure to press again on the back of the fabric to ensure the design is fused well to the fabric.
Step 5
Cut out your pattern and sew it up.
See how easy it is to make your own fabric designs with vinyl. Check out how I used this fabric on our patriotic outfits.
