What is a lavender sachet?
A sachet is a pouch that holds a yummy scent to help make a space smell fresh. You can add them to sock drawers, linen closets, even in your car. Any space that needs a little refreshing, lavender sachets are a great way to add a little something.
What material is best for lavender sachets?
Just a bit of cotton or linen fabric is all you need to make these simple lavender sachets. Plus, you can use up those fabric scraps to learn how to make lavender sachets in just minutes!
Check out some other great projects for using fabric scraps.
How much lavender do you need for a sachet?
You only need about 1/4" cup or less of lavender. Too much lavender can overpower the space. I like to mix my lavender with dry rice.
How long do lavender sachets last?
The scent of lavender can last for years. If you feel like the scent isn't strong enough, shake or crush the rice and lavender sachet in your hands every few months. That should break up the lavender and help the scent last longer.
Let's get you started sewing a sachets.
- 2 - 5" x 5" cotton squares
- 2 - 4" x 4" cotton squares
- 2- 3" x 3" cotton squares
- Matching thread
- Ribbon
- 1 cup Dried Lavender
- 1-2 cups Dry Rice
Step 1
Cut two squares of fabric 5" x 5", 4" x 4", and 3" x 3".
Step 2
Mark a 1.5" opening in the middle of one side of the square. You can mark with a fabric pen or with straight pins.
With Right Sides Together (RST), pin your two pieces of fabric together.
Stitch around the square in a 1/4" seam allowance. Leaving the marked opening open. Make sure to sew square corners around the sachet.
Trim threads and clip the corners of your square.
Step 3
Turn right side out. Push the corners out.
Create a funnel out of a scrap piece of paper.
Fill square 2/3 of the way with rice. Add 1/4 cup of lavender.
Step 7
Repeat the steps with the other sizes for the sachets.
Step 8
Stack the 3 sizes of sachets. Tie ribbon around the bundle and add a simple bow.
Place sachet in a closet, drawer or even in your car to take away the musty smell and add a fresh scent.
