Gingerbread Man Felt Christmas Ornament Pattern

There is something about having an old fashion Christmas that has always appealed to me.

You know what I mean.  Lots of fresh (or fake) evergreens, holly and ivy strung over the banister, and gingerbread baking in the kitchen.

I long for simple days.  Sometimes I wish I had been born before all this technology.

That is why I love this felt Christmas ornament pattern.

It screams old fashion Christmas.  Maybe because it is handmade.  Maybe it is the felt.  Whatever it is, I am truly in love with these gingerbread ornaments.

Not only are they adorable, but they would make a great neighbor gift or handmade Christmas gift for family.

Plus, this pattern takes such small amounts of felt, you could get several ornaments out of just a couple sheets of felt.

And if you are looking for a great addition to these gingerbread people, check out this super cute Gingerbread House Ornament.

Materials Needed

Step 1
Download the Gingerbread people SVG cut file or sewing pattern at the end of the post.  Upload the SVG to Cricut Design Space.

Cut out designs in the 4 felt colors.  If you are using the Cricut Maker, you have two choices.  You can cut it out in felt using the deep cut blade.  Or you can cut it out as fleece using the rotary blade.  I've found I like using the fleece setting.

If you don't have a cutting machine, cut out the sewing pattern pieces using small fabric scissors for the best results.

Step 2
Using white thread, stitch the frosting hair, arm bands and leg bands onto the top layer of the gingerbread person using your sewing machine.

Step 3
For the man, tack the ivy down using 3 small, red tack stitches to look like holly.

For the woman, tack the ivy down in her frosting hair the same way.  This is also the time to stitch the skirt across the waist of the gingerbread woman.

Step 4
Place the front and back pieces together.  Use a blanket stitch to stitch the two pieces together.

Step 5
Add the Poly-Fiberfil.  I found that sewing one section and then adding the fiberfil was the easiest way instead of waiting until the end.

Step 6
Using a spray adhesive, spray each of the animal eyes.

Step 7
Poke a small hole where you want the eyes and buttons to go on your gingerbread people.  Slide the animal eyes in for eyes and buttons.
