Easy Bifold Wallet Pattern and Tutorial

A few years ago I took a trip to Florida with some of my students.  I needed a small wallet that could fit in my pocket so I didn't have to carry a bag into all the theme parks.

I actually sat down and busted out this super bifold wallet pattern.

I really didn't want to carry a purse around the entire park.  I just wanted something I could slide into my pocket.

After my trip, I found that this simple wallet pattern was the perfect size for carrying throughout the summer and whenever I didn't want to carry a purse.

Let me share the tutorial for how I put this little project together.

Materials Needed

  • 1/4 yd interior and exterior cotton fabric
  • Thread
  • Iron
  • Tape Measure

Step 1
First you need some fabric.  You'll need exterior fabric and two interior fabrics.  Mine are a bit random, but they work.

I started by measuring a bill and a gift card/credit card.

Step 2
The wallet should be 8" x 4".

Step 3
Now cut 2 exterior pieces, 2 interior pieces, and then 2 pocket pieces (these you will cut down as you need them).

Step 4
Cut your "pocket pieces" into smaller sizes to fit your credit cards.  Mine are about 3" x 4".

Step 5
Now you need some interfacing on all your pieces.

Step 6
Turn the tops of your pocket pieces 1/4" and iron and sew.  Then line them up on your wallet interior.  Sew down the bottoms so they alternate and so your card won't fall through and be lost.

Step 7
Place the 2 exterior pieces together and sew across the 8" side.

Step 8
Place the two interior pieces together and sew across the 8" side.

Step 9
Now open both pieces and place them on top of each other.  Sew all the way around, but leave an opening in the middle of the interior section.

Step 10
See the opening above?  You'll flip the wallet all the way right side out.

Now sew the opening closed.

This is a great pocket size bifold wallet pattern.  You can carry all the essentials without any issues.

I carried this around instead of my purse this summer when I took some students on a trip to Walt Disney World.  It worked great!!!

  1. Great idea! I could use a wallet. I'm going to try to use one of the card holder with Velcro closure for coins -?
