DIY Grocery Bag Organizer for TBT

Grocery Bag Holder Tutorial by GYCT
Today I wanted to share a fun throwback post from several years ago.  If you are anything like me, you save all your grocery bags from the store.  You probably have like a million.  Well, today you are in luck.  We are sharing our Grocery Bag Organizer Tutorial from a few years back.  You're going to love it!!  But we've updated it and even have a video showing you how to make it.

Materials Needed:
1/4" to 1/2" elastic (really whatever you've got at home)
9" of Ribbon

Watch this video on how to make it

  1. Yesterday I knocked over the store-bought holder for the millionth time. I wished for a pattern just like I used to have. Perfect timing! I may use interior design fabric as I don't have any hand towels to sacrifice to this great project. Thanks!

  2. I want to use scraps from my sewing fabrics, what are the dimensions of this very cool project, please? Thanks :)

    1. Hopefully she will respond and give you her measurements, but to try and help, I measured my hand towel (which has been laundered) and it is 15.5" wideby 25" long. But the great thing with projects like this you can use any fabric you have...the only thing to watch for with this is to make sure after adding the elastic you can still shove your bags into the opening. Happy sewing!

    2. Thanks for responding Stephanie. As for dimensions, I'd just measure your favorite hand towel and use those dimensions. You can easily make it larger or smaller depending on the space you are going to be using it in. Hope that helps.

  3. about to start this project , with stuff from my stash pile !

  4. I get frustrated when I am looking for another size bag for a specific need. So I made 3 of these in different sizes. then I use the smaller one for small bags(such as ones for gift cards, from the pharmacy and the like) one for the standard size, & the bigger one for the larger bags (like the ones that blankets, large items come in) Sort as you fill the sleeve & when you need a special size - you know just where to go PS: I used scrap fabrics in different colors to do this project.

I'd love to hear from you!
