This tutorial for an easy notebook fabric cover will show you just how to make ANY notebook a fabric cover, no matter the size.
Plus, this same method can be used to make covers for textbooks, cookbooks and even books you just want to keep from getting ruined.

How to Sew a Notebook Cover
Materials Needed
- Notebook/book to collect measurements
- 1/2" yard main fabric - could be less depending on notebook size
- 1/2" yard lining fabric - could be less depending on notebook size
- 7" x 2.5" piece for pencil pocket
- Optional: Fusible Interfacing
Cutting Instructions
Measure around the notebook and add 7". Measure the height of the notebook and add 1". These are now the measurements you need to follow Step 1.
Sewing Instructions
Step 1
Cut two pieces of fabric with your measurements from the cutting chart above. You can also cut the optional interfacing and apply to the wrong side of your lining.
With right sides together, stitch the two notebook pieces together. Leaving a 5" opening along the bottom long side. Press.
Clip all the corners. Turn the notebook cover right side out.
Press notebook cover. Topstitch along the short edges of the cover.
Press the two short edges of the pocket towards the wrong side of the material. Stitch along one of the short sides.
Press the long edges of the pocket towards the wrong side of the fabric.
Place the pocket 4.5" from on the short sides of the notebook cover. Pin in place. Stitch the pocket to the cover. Leaving the top of the pocket open for the pencil.
Turn the two side edges of the notebook cover towards the wrong side of the cover. Measure and make sure they are each 3" wide. Pin in place.
Topstitch along the top edge and bottom edge of the cover. Attaching the side flaps and closing the opening you made in step 2. Press.
Slide the notebook into each of the flaps.
