There’s something extra special about a handmade gift, and adding a personal touch to the wrapping makes it even better. What if you took it one step further and added a simple embroidered heart onto fabric using an easy running stitch?

Embroidery projects make a great gift because you can work on them on the road, at ball games and in front of the TV. This small heart embroidery is quick and easy but also makes those fabric gift tags more personalized and special.

DIY Fabric Gift Tag Tutorial
Materials Needed
Heart Tag Pattern (click the peach colored button at the end of the post)
Fabric – Cotton or linen
Interfacing (optional)
(12") 1/8" ribbon
Step 1
Place fabric into embroidery hoop. Tighten until fabric is nice a taut and "springy".
Step 2
Place pattern design over the fabric using printed Fabri-Solvy or draw by hand using FriXion Erasable Markers.
Step 3
Thread 2 strands of floss into the needle. Bring the needle up through the back at point A.
Step 4
Insert it back down a short distance away at point B.
Continue bringing the needle up and down at even intervals to create a dashed line effect.
Step 5
Remove the Fabri-Solvy with water and allow design to completely dry.
Step 7
Fold the ribbon in half. Sandwich ribbon between the right sides of the two tag pieces. The ribbon should be at the top point.
Stitch around the outside of the tag. Leaving a 1.5" opening at the bottom edge.
Step 8
Turn tag right side out and press. Topstitch around the outside of the tag and press.

Your fabric gift tag is now ready to use. Tie it to any gift or package and use FriXion Markers to write on the tag. To remove the marker, simply apply a little heat from your iron and it will disappear for your next use.
