It's pumpkin season! Which makes my fall loving heart so very happy. I love pumpkins so much that I have my own pumpkin patch so I can plant all the pumpkins I want for my porch.

I put pumpkins all over my house, in my kitchen, everywhere I can. Naturally, when I noticed I needed to replace my fall pillows, I went right to what kind of pumpkin design can I do. That's where the quilted pumpkin pattern came from.
Yes, I know I'm not the only one that has a pumpkin quilt block. But have you seen anyone use that pattern to make a pillow cover? No?! I got you there.
You can get the free pattern, video and tutorial right here on the blog today. That way you can decorate your porch or couch for fall just like me.

Place piece D right side up on a flat surface. Place and pin B1 pieces and match the squares to the top 2 corners. Place and pin B2 pieces and match the squares to the bottom 2 corners. Make sure right sides are together.
Optional: Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on your B pieces to help guide your sewing.
Stitch B pieces to piece D and a diagonal across the small squares. Press.
Using a clear ruler, cut a 1/4" seam allowance on the outside of each of the small squares. You'll have cut off a small triangle on each piece.
Turn corner triangles and press flat. You now have a pumpkin section.
Using pieces A and C, place one A over C and stitch. Repeat on the opposite side with the other A piece. Press. You've created the stem section.
With right sides together, place the stem section over the top of the pumpkin section. Pin and stitch in place across the top raw edge.
Press the stem section up. Trim and square up the pattern square.
With right sides together, pin both E pieces to the sides of the pumpkin section. Stitch.
Press E seams flat.
With right sides together, pin both F pieces to the sides of the pumpkin section. Stitch.
Step 11
Press F seams flat. Use a rotary cutter and self healing mat to square up the sides to be 19" x 19".
Using two G pieces, hem one of the long sides of each piece by folding 1/4" and pressing. Folding again another 1/4" and press. Stitch along the hem. Repeating on the opposite piece. Make sure you are folding to the wrong side of the fabric.
Place the pumpkin front right side up on a flat surface. Place one back piece wrong side up over the pumpkin section. Matching the long edges. Overlap the other back piece by matching it to the opposite pumpkin section. Pin around the outside of the entire square.
Stitch around the outside at 1/2". Making sure to backstitch. Trim your corners. Press.
Turn the pillowcase right side out and press. Place it over your pillow form.
Yay for pumpkins!! Look how great that pillow looks. Plus, it is super festive and will work for the entire fall season, August to November.
If you want to make it more Halloween themed, you could choose colors like purple, black and green. Give it more of a spooky vibe.
These pillow covers will go on our porch chairs or on our entryway bench. They add some color and a quick festive vibe.
And the plus side is these are pillow covers, so you can take them off and replace them quickly for the next holiday without having to buy another pillow or figuring out where to store more pillows. It makes cleaning a breeze too.
