What is a mug rug?
A mug rug is a small piece of fabric, usually around the size of a coaster, that is used to protect surfaces from hot mugs or cups. Mug rugs usually have a decorative design, and they can be made from a variety of materials, including quilted fabric, cotton, and wool.
What's the difference between a mug rug and a coaster?
A common question among those new to the world of sewing is: what's the difference between a mug rug and a coaster?
The answer, simply put, is size. A coaster is small enough to fit under a single mug or glass, while a mug rug is large enough to accommodate both a mug and a small snack.
However, they are also different in the way each item is used. For example, coaster are often placed on top of a table or counter, while mug rugs are typically used as placemats.
What is the average size of a mug rug?
While there is no standard size for a mug rug, most are between six and eight inches in diameter. If you're worried about finding the right size, don't worry! Check out all these great mug rug ideas in many shapes and sizes.
