The first bite of the season is always exciting. Sweet, juicy and packed full of little seeds that get stuck in your teeth. But as always, totally worth it.
Strawberries that is. Totally worth growing, picking and purchasing.
Strawberries seem to signal the start of summer in our house. Perhaps that is the same for yours.

But why am I talking about strawberries when I usually just share about sewing and crafting. Great questions my friend! They are what inspired my spring decor in my new mud room.
It has taken us 5 years, but we've finally finished {minus a mirror and towel rack} our mud room. This room is essential for any home set on 10 acres. You've got to have a room with a deep sink to clean up all the mud, messes and bathe those tiny farm animals{and toddlers}.
Our mud room began with a set of shelves and some plumbing hardware. Thanks to the help of my husband and Dad, it now has more shelves for food storage and supplies, a deep sink with cupboard, a bench with shoe drawer, coat hangers and a cut shelf I can use for seasonal decorations.
Yes, it will still be the catch all room for "stuff". But in the end, at least all that stuff won't always be on my floor or being hit my the door every second of the day.
Now, back to the strawberries.
That tiny shelf over the top of the coat hooks, that is my saving grace for this room.
That tiny shelf allows this room to be a little something more. At Christmas I put up some fun paper houses with lights and evergreens. It was magical.
But since Christmas, it has sat empty. Abandoned. Alone.
Not anymore! {Cue the strawberries.}
One Sunday afternoon I got to thinking about what I love about this time of year and going strawberry picking was on my mind. BAM! My idea emerged.
My 7 year old and 4 year old were super excited about the idea and helped gather some scrap wood to paint.
I started designing cute u-pick and farm inspired strawberry phrases to use as cut files. Our family loves making strawberry freezer jam. It is one of our favorite canning projects. So of course we had to have something with jam on it.
For the signs I used the Series 51 permanent vinyl from Expressions Vinyl. It has a glossy finish and I love the sheen on the signs.
For the chalkboard stand, I used removable vinyl just so I can use the sign again in the future for other projects.

I also wanted to accent the shelf with my sewing skills and put together these adorable felt strawberries. They are really easy to make but add so much to the shelf.
Lastly, I added some red gingham fabric to bring out all those rich reds. I really love how it all turned out. Perfect colors for spring into summer.
And since the mud room is right off the garage, I get to see those strawberries every time I come inside.
Okay enough about my mud room. Let's get you creating for your mud room....or wherever else you want to use these cut strawberry cut files.
