Having a good bedtime routine is so important for kids, especially toddlers.  When I had my first child, I loved bed and bath time.  We'd sing, play, wash and usually, repeat.  Then we'd cuddle up and read a good book and rock until he was ready to sleep.  It was fun, relaxing and a great way to bond.

Every bath ended with using JOHNSON’S® Baby Shampoo.  I was gifted my first set of JOHNSON’S® Baby Shampoo, lotion and oil at my baby shower.  Not only did I love the smell, but I loved how clean and soft my baby's skin was.  That is where I feel in love with JOHNSON's products.  I knew they had great products but I also trusted that they would help take care of my little baby and keep him nice and clean.

So when my daughter was born, of course I turned to JOHNSON’S® Baby Care Products.  Every single bath (or shower) we would sing, play and wash with JOHNSON’S® Baby Shampoo.  JOHNSON's Baby Care Products basically raised my first 2 children.

Fast forward to the present day.  My 3rd baby is now 2 years old and a few months ago he came down with Fifth's Disease.  (Which, if you don't know what that is, is basically a viral infection with a rash.) Once he recovered from that, he had a horrible case of eczema that itched so bad he was always saying "itchy Momma".

Why is this such a big deal?  Other than the fact that my little man is itching so much he breaks through his skin with his nails.  He also LOVES the water and bath time, but water only seemed to make his eczema worse!  We stopped taking so many baths and stopped using soaps and lotions.  Which means our bedtime routine has been interrupted and that means my toddler has been a bit...difficult lately.  Lack of sleep and no fun water play has made his little toddler life miserable.

Our doctor suggested not using any products with parabens and making sure it was made with lots of natural ingredients.  Since we live out in the country, we rely heavily on our local Walgreen's since it is one of our closest retailers and we are always able to find something that works for us.  Not only is our Walgreen's open 24 hours, but we've stopped in at all times during the day and night for medicine, bath supplies and even one time for diapers in the middle of the night because we had a bit of a diaper emergency.  We are grateful to have a Walgreen's close to us and have great employees willing to help us track down whatever we might need.  We go to Walgreen's because we trust that they have the products we need and know that if we need something they will make it available to us.

This week I was determined to find something that would help my toddler's bedtime routine return and soothe his skin. I stopped in at Walgreen's because I trusted they'd have something that would work for my little man.  I went in search of the baby aisle for something that could relieve the itch and bring back my toddler's bedtime routine.  And BAM, right there in my local Walgreens was the answer!  My favorite brand, one that I trust, JOHNSON’S® has come out with  a new formula for their baby products that are 100% gentle, free of all parabens and phthalates and they use over 90% naturally derived ingredients

What?!  JOHNSON’S® is new and improved, inside and out!!  That made my Momma heart super happy.  Not only could I stick with a brand that I trusted.  A brand that I had raised my first 2 children to use, but my sweet 2 year old can enjoy his bath time again!!  I was grateful that my Walgreen's had our favorite JOHNSON’S® Baby Shampoo stocked, plus I picked up the JOHNSON’S® Shea and Cocoa Butter Body Wash that will really help sooth his itchy skin.

Now is the hard part, getting back into a bedtime routine.  Since I'm probably not the only parent that needs a little help getting back into a routine for that fall, I thought I'd share some tips on how to establish a good toddler bedtime routine especially those rambunctious ones like mine.  If you are looking to get your older children back into a routine, check out our Kids Daily Chore Chart.

Easy and Effective Toddler Bedtime Routine

Step 1
Get the bathtub ready BEFORE your toddler comes in to wash.  This way you can decide on what temperature the water should be and how much water to add.  (Seeing as my toddler always tries to add more water to a bath, I don't usually fill my tub very high.)

This is also a great time to add a little pump or two of JOHNSON’S® Shea and Cocoa Butter Body Wash right into the water for some fun bubbles.  I love JOHNSON’S® new pump top bottles because even when my hands are full, I can easily pump a little body wash right into my hands, the tub or on my wiggly toddler.  Plus, using the Shea and Cocoa Butter Body Wash will help soften and moisturize that sweet toddler skin.  I was really excited about this JOHNSON's formula because I've always trusted that the body wash would keep my little ones clean, but now it helps to moisturize them as well.

My now 8 year old HATED soap as a little person.  To be honest, he still doesn't like it.  But adding it to the water as bubbles always helped get him excited to take a bath.  Now, I don't have that issue with my 2 year old.  He adores baths, loves bubbles and can't wait to splash and make a mess.

Step 2
Time to play!  Yep, bath time = playtime.  And no, you don't have to buy specific toys for the tub.  Bath time is a great time to enjoy playing with your toddler.  Bring in a plastic cup or bowl and pour water or scoop up some bubbles.  Find a fun plastic toy and discover if it sinks or floats.  Sing a song like "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" to help your toddler learn their body parts.  And my personal favorite, add JOHNSON’S® Baby Shampoo to their hair and give it a good lather until there is enough soap to make their hair stand up on it's own.  You can make fun hair sculptures or even just make funny bubble hats.  Then let them see what it looks like in the mirror.

Step 3
Wash and rinse.  Since bath time is all about getting clean, you can't forget to wash that rambunctious toddler.  Start with the new dye free, sulfate free, worry free JOHNSON’S® Baby Shampoo.  I've always loved JOHNSON’S® Baby Shampoo because of the No More Tears formula.  I hate when my little ones get soap in their eyes and it hurts them.  I trust that JOHNSON's No More Tears formula helps protect their eyes from the sting of soap. Plus, your baby has that delicious clean baby smell.  But it is even better when you wash up that toddler and they snuggle up to you smelling so fresh and yummy.  Nothing compares.

Next, you need to try the JOHNSON’S® Shea and Cocoa Butter Body Wash.  Not only does it smell amazing, but it will moisturize that wiggly toddler body.  Which is exactly what my itchy toddler needed to have nice soft skin.

Now is a great time to try out all the new and improved JOHNSON’S® Baby Care products.  Walgreen's is offering a buy 1 get 1 50% off with balance rewards card from 7/29 to 8/25.  You can check out the entire offer plus all the great new JOHNSON’S® Baby Care products HERE.

Step 4
Dry and Moisturize.  Wrap that toddler in a big towel and dry them off thoroughly.  I found my sons eczema was a lot worse if I left water too long on his body.  So dry their little bodies well and then use a nice lotion like JOHNSON’S® Baby Lotion to moisturize those cute cheeks.

Step 5
Brush that hair (and the teeth).  My little man just needs a good comb through his hair so it doesn't look too crazy, but my 5 year old daughter needs a good spray of JOHNSON’S® Baby No Tangle Spray to help get rid of all those tangles.  I love that this is offered at my local Walgreen's.  I picked up a new hairbrush and hair accessories for my daughter and we are excited to do her hair easily in the mornings for kindergarten.

Step 6
Cuddle up and read.  Finally, to finish off that easy bedtime routine with your toddler, snuggle up and read a book.  Studies have shown that kids that are read to as babies and toddlers have a much higher vocabulary and make better relationships with others.  Taking time to read together is great for your toddler and for their bedtime routine.

A toddler bedtime routine is such a simple change that can make so much difference in the health of your toddler.  Having a great product that can help make that routine faster is so great.  JOHNSON’S® really is "The Brand You Trust.  Now More Gentle Than Ever."  Make sure to head to your local Walgreens to check out all these great products.
