I’m so happy to be taking part in the 31 Days of Halloween on GYCT Designs today, and I want to thank Chelsea for allowing me the opportunity to share my project.
Raw edge appliqué is one of my favorite techniques because it is a fun way to embellish any item quickly and easily. Because I have a little one running around, I need fast projects to complete while she naps. I love to share free applique patterns because they are quick and easy.
I love adding simple touches throughout the house during the holidays and decided to make some “pumpkin patch” hand towels to add a little color and Halloween spirit to the kitchen.
You’ll need:
· Plain flour sack kitchen towels
· Wonder Under or other fusible webbing
· Fabric scraps in orange, green and black (optional)
· Pumpkin template printed and cut out on cardstock
· Coordinating thread, scissors, marker
After selecting orange and green scraps for your pumpkins, gently press the fusible webbing to the wrong side of the fabric scraps.
Trace three of each pumpkin upside down onto your fusible webbing/orange scraps. I embellished two towels, so I needed six pumpkins total.
Trace three (or six if you're making two towels) of each stem upside down on the fusible webbing/green scraps.
Cut out your pumpkins and stems, then carefully peel the paper backing off each.
Line up your pumpkin patch in your desired arrangement. With the warm iron, gently press your appliqué shapes to your hand towels until they’re fused together.
I decided to leave my pumpkins as is, but if you'd like to turn yours into jack-o-lanterns, use the black fabric scraps to create eyes, noses and ears. Use your sewing machine to stitch around the edges of your design.
Finally add a little Halloween cheer to your kitchen with this fun these free applique patterns!
