Pumpkin Lacing Card from Call Ajaire

I'm Ajaire from Call Ajaire and really excited to participate in the 31 Days of Halloween this year because frankly my girl has been waiting all summer for October and Halloween to get here.  I don't know why she has taken such a liking to all things spooky, but she is over the top excited about Halloween.  I decided to go a less spooky route with this craft and stick to a pumpkin theme.  Luckily she was just as excited about pumpkins, hehe.

You can download a free Pumpkin Lacing Card Template (*affiliate link) that I've uploaded to my Craftsy site.  You need to have a craftsy login to download it, but it doesn't cost you anything to sign up and Craftsy is a great place to find free and for sale patterns and courses which is why I became an affiliate.

Once you've downloaded the template, cut out the pumpkin and trace the shape onto a piece of felt or foam sheet.  I used a thin piece of felt that I had on hand which worked just fine.  I like to use a hole punch to cut the holes for lacing, but it can get tricky reaching the holes toward the center depending on how thick your material is.  I didn't have an issue with this felt, but you could use an awl to cut out the holes as well.

Thread pieces of ribbon on a plastic yarn needle and knot the end.  I also like to loosely knot the other end so my girl doesn't pull the ribbon out of the needle each time she pulls it through.  She's only 3 so if your child has the skill to keep the ribbon on the needle you can skip that step.

Then let your child lace the ribbons through the holes.  If you start from the back of the felt, then the ribbon will end at the back of the felt for each of the jack-o-lantern shapes.

If you have a young child a lacing card is a fun activity.  If you sew like I do then your children probably see you sewing and this is a great way to get them involved.  My girl really enjoys "sewing" beside me.  You can see in the picture above how much she's trying to concentrate.

And she is so proud of the final product.  I helped guide her along the way, but she did all the stitching herself.  Usually once we do a shape together the first time she will do it again by herself the next time.  I hope you'll enjoy this fun activity as much as we did!
