Button Organizing from Swoodson Says

Hey! I'm Stephanie, and I blog at Swoodson Says about the things I sew and craft in addition to updating a social sewing calendar that lists all the upcoming sew alongs, competitions, and events that I can find. I used to be incredibly organized, until we moved to a new state and our first house when my son was 3 weeks old. My Mom (fabulously) unpacked us, and I have been scrambling to get caught up ever since (over a year and half, no excuse!). So, I took the invitation to share in this series as a challenge to figure out one aspect of my mess to organize. Scanning around my craft room, I realized that I am often overwhelmed by my messy button collection! I'll be honest - I'm not entirely sure where all these buttons came from. It's especially troubling because I can count the projects that I've used buttons for, on one hand. Clearly I need to do some Pinterest-ing and find some button DIYs!

All of the lonely mismatched buttons were hanging out, mingling, in a tub.

All you need are some cardboard boxes & washi tape! I saved up a bunch of food boxes and started chopping. I randomly added washi tape stripes and then trimmed so the tops were even with the tape, saving me the headache of trying to measure or straighten them out.

I love being able to reuse something, not to mention the price tag. If you don't eat processed foods, I'm sure you could hunt some down on Craigslist or Freecycle.

The washi tape I used was from the Target dollar bins, and on the flimsy side. The designs showing through doesn't really bother me, but I'm sure higher quality washi tape would be more opaque. You could also cover them with scrapbook paper, or leave them au naturele.

I love how it turned out, and the whole thing took maybe 2 hours. Instead of looking over to see a mess, now I see bright, happy stripes! I'm all over social media and connecting with new folks is the best.

Thanks for having me Chelsea!
