Candyland Crossover: The Crafting Con Blog Tour

Today I wanted to share a little spin on one of my favorite childhood games, Candyland.  I know you love it too!  We spent hours and entire summers working our way up to King Kandy Castle.  I remember wishing it really existed so I could visit and eat all day long.

My favorite characters were always Princess Lolly and Lord Licorice.  I do love a good lollipop and everyone loves licorice.  And since they are rivals, I knew it would work perfect for siblings.

Now, if you ask my son he would have LOVED an entire outfit out of Licorice.  But as I wanted a more "practical" take on Lord Licorice, he had to settle for just a regular cape.

To make his cape, I used the Free Superhero Cape pattern I have on my blog.  I decided to make one side solid black and the other red and white argyle.  He loves it.  Wears it all the time and is a superhero.  (Although, it was made for a villain!)

For the rest of his outfit, I wanted to do a little color blocking.  It is a great way to make a boys clothing look very modern and unique.  I started with a raglan top because Lord Licorice has such awesome "sleeves".  I made licorice red sleeves and then added a band of red down the chest line.

His pants are actually the Classic Chinos Pattern from Peek-a-Boo Patterns (affiliate).  Made them red, as Lord Licorice loves red!  Overall, I think it is a fun take on Lord Licorice.

Princess Lolly is all about the lollipop!  I thought long and hard about how to make the lollipop but not have a crazy costume.  I finally decided on applique.

I cut out circles and then cut a spiral through the circle to make the lollipops.  Then stitched them down.

For the shirt, I used the Tinley Tee Pattern.

I took the band and cut out about 2" sections of pinks and purples and pieced them together to give it the look of the playing board squares.

The leggings are self drafted and self dyed.  I love to make my own leggings and dye them.  You can get them the color you need so much easier then searching around town.  (You can get the tutorial on dying your own leggings on the blog.)

For her cardigan, I used Peekaboo Pattern's V-Neck Cardigan (affiliate).

As you can see, they enjoy their outfits.

Make sure to check out what some of the other's on the blog tour are sharing, PLUS, stay tuned for the fun themes coming up.  I am exciting to be competing during November for the Hunger Games Challenge!!
