Now, if you ask my son he would have LOVED an entire outfit out of Licorice. But as I wanted a more "practical" take on Lord Licorice, he had to settle for just a regular cape.
To make his cape, I used the Free Superhero Cape pattern I have on my blog. I decided to make one side solid black and the other red and white argyle. He loves it. Wears it all the time and is a superhero. (Although, it was made for a villain!)
For the rest of his outfit, I wanted to do a little color blocking. It is a great way to make a boys clothing look very modern and unique. I started with a raglan top because Lord Licorice has such awesome "sleeves". I made licorice red sleeves and then added a band of red down the chest line.
His pants are actually the Classic Chinos Pattern from Peek-a-Boo Patterns (affiliate). Made them red, as Lord Licorice loves red! Overall, I think it is a fun take on Lord Licorice.
Princess Lolly is all about the lollipop! I thought long and hard about how to make the lollipop but not have a crazy costume. I finally decided on applique.
I cut out circles and then cut a spiral through the circle to make the lollipops. Then stitched them down.
I took the band and cut out about 2" sections of pinks and purples and pieced them together to give it the look of the playing board squares.
The leggings are self drafted and self dyed. I love to make my own leggings and dye them. You can get them the color you need so much easier then searching around town. (You can get the tutorial on dying your own leggings on the blog.)
For her cardigan, I used Peekaboo Pattern's V-Neck Cardigan (affiliate).
As you can see, they enjoy their outfits.
